Bubbles with Christ

So, I remember, it was during my transition period where I was trying to get on the road that Jesus wanted me on, and I had these one-on-one sessions with my then counsellor but now Spiritual Mom, Mami K (as I call her). She was ministering Jesus (if I’m not mistaken) to me. She was basically saying that more often than not, the people that we are friends with and our siblings, represent Jesus and ultimately, represent how we see Jesus. Because Jesus relates to us as a friend or as a sibling; he is closer than a brother to us (Proverbs 18:24). When she was done, she asked Jesus to reveal Himself to me, now you guys, the vision I saw was so beautiful so peaceful, so warm, and I even smelled fresh flowers. In the vision, was in a field of tall-ish grass with Jesus, the field was full of flowers, and there were bubbles being blown, from somewhere, and I was running in the field with Jesus by my side, grinning, like a child. I was running with Jesus. As you can see, bubbles have been a running theme between myself and Jesus.

Because of the vision during my counselling session with Mama K, she bought me bubbles (which I am obsessed with). My mom and cousin, with her son in tow, came to Cape Town to visit me and also have an encounter with Jesus by taking part in Ancient Paths which is a course provided by my Church, Every Nation Church (Baxter), but due to the, then looming, lockdown, all church gatherings were cancelled. So, Mama K decided to provide a similar course to them called Victory Weekend, in the midst of the lockdown looming (which was a blessing for them). My mom, Palesa (cousin), Yuri (nephew) and myself went to Mama K's house for the course. Mama K was ministering to them and I had the duty of being the child minder, a task I accepted with excitement because I love my little nephew and I also love kids. So, I decided to go outside with Yuri and let the ministering happen child-and-Nicolla-free, while we were outside making bubbles (well, mostly me making the bubbles). While I was watching him run and go crazy over bubbles, and try with his entire might to pop the bubbles, I started musing about how amazing it is that kids instinctively know that bubbles are meant for popping. Even though they might not have had a previous experience with popping bubbles, they would still want to engage with the bubbles; touch them feel, them and ultimately pop them. And the more I thought of this, I felt Jesus saying: “I want you be like that with Me”. How loving does that sound? He is indeed jealous over us (Exodus 34:14). He said in an almost pleadingly and yearningly voice. We have proof of how much God wants us to know Him in a deeper level. What's the proof? The cross of course. What He did on the cross was the ultimate longing cry, about how much how much He wants us to know Him intimately; on a substantial and cavernous level.

This led me to the realisation that He wants us to be so eager to “pop” Him; to experience and know Him more, to have a hunger and thirst that is so strong that we cannot not want to pop Him. I believe what He was trying to say that we should have such a fervour for Him, the same fervour children have for bubbles. So much fervour that we are excited and ready to do anything we can do to experience Him, be with Him, and learn from Him. There’s so much of Jesus we have not experienced yet; we have barely scraped the surface of Who He really is. And it is an honour for Him to even allow us to get to know Him more, let alone Follow Him (Matthew 4:19).

I believe that the image of the bubbles was purposeful, not because I like bubbles, but because there’s a deeper meaning to them. Like I explained before, children love the idea of popping bubbles, I think it is a satisfying feeling to to children (and some adults like myself) to have the bubbles pop right in front of them. I believe Holy Spirit was revealing to me that in the field, Jesus was with me and the bubbles were bursts of Himself around me (because He is always around me like He said in Matthew 28: 20); beautiful bursts of Himself, filled with His character, knowledge and plenty more things I cannot even begin comprehend. Jesus was making me realise that these bursts of Himself are there, in very much close proximity to me, and all I (we) need to do is to pop them (Him) and release them into the world and to myself, so that we can get to experience Him in a deeper and more meaningful level and not just on a surface level (Philippians 3:10 - 11).

Jesus wants us to be like children (Matthew 18:3 – 4); to be free of everything that we have grown to know and be, just so we could be “carefree” enough to want to be in His presence, and to get to know Him, like God originally had planned for us. I believe that the vision I saw of Jesus and myself in the field with flowers and bubbles in the air, was Jesus saying that these bubbles that had bursts of beautiful colours, and smells are freely given to us, by God through Jesus. Like children when they are playing with bubbles, God wants us to be excited to interact with Him, be elated and overjoyed to spend time with Him, to Know Him. These Jesus bubbles aren't meant to disappear with the wind, they are meant to be popped by us. We can pop Him as many times we want. My prayer is that we all be like children, carefree enough to forgo our thoughts, fears and worries and allow Him to release Himself to us. And if we lack in the courage to do so, Holy Spirit can give is that courage and boldness to do the popping. Happy Jesus popping! (Below is a video of my nephew playing with bubbles).
